Acupuncture for Endometriosis

Endometriosis occurs when the endometrial tissue grows and functions outside of the uterus.  This may include endometrial tissue growing around the ovaries, uterine wall, fallopian tubes, vagina, bladder, umbilicus etc.

These endometrial cells respond to hormonal fluctuations and bleed with the cycle causing intense pain and inflammation. Scar tissue then forms and can bind the organs together (womb, fallopian tubes etc). These cysts are mostly 3 – 4 cm in diameter but can grow to as large as 15cm.

Endometriosis can take many forms but it is often characterised by painful periods with dark menstrual blood and clotting.

Numerous studies have been completed and the results are conclusive, Acupuncture is very effective at relieving the pain associated with endometriosis, and in some cases is more effective than pharmaceutical intervention.  It is also very effective for improving the menstrual cycle and thus the chances of conceiving.
